June 2010 Update
Llanelly House team are proud to support the forthcoming Llanelli Festival in August 2010. Much work has been undertaken by Benita Afan Rees, who is not only the Events co-ordinator for this event but is also an active volunteer for the Llanelly House project. One very busy lady! If you would like to contribute to the event or your organisation would like to participate please contact either myself at estelle.evans@chrt.org.uk or Benita at benitaafan@aol.com
1 - The event is gaining momentum with 67 organisations reserving floor space.
2 - A number of organisations have donated raffle prizes to help with fund-raising for the event. Prince Charles has sent his good wishes and donated a 60th Birthday Commemorative Plate one of only 1,000 produced. Ours is No 101. Encourage all your family and friends to come along, buy a raffle ticket and have a chance to win this beautifully decorated plate in a presentation box.
3 - Any profits from the raffles will be held by the Llanelli Historical Society for future events. For information contact the society’s treasurer John Williams MBE, telephone 01554 810677.
4 - The County Council is planning activities outside the Selwyn Samuel Centre to compliment the Festival and any enquiries should be directed to Ron Cant, Press Officer, Regeneration, Engineering and Highways, MCP, PCP and Leisure services, County Hall, Carmarthen, SA31 1JP Tel: 01267 224923.
5 - Sincere thanks are extended to everyone who has agreed to take part in this special event and to those who have agreed to sponsor the event and offered financial or practical assistance.
6 - The event has the full backing of the County, Town and Rural Councils.
7 - www.llanellitown.com Llanellitown.com has kindly agreed to sponsor the event and will be our media sponsors.
8 - There will be plenty to entertain participants and visitors on the day.
9 - Each participating group will be responsible for their own area, keeping tidy, clean etc., and removing any rubbish or waste at the end of the day.
10 - Arrangements have been made for the hall to be opened the evening before from 6.00 pm until 8.00 pm for displays and tables to be set up to avoid a crush on the day.
11 - The centre will open at 9.30 a.m. to allow setting up of tables etc. The Official opening will be at 11.00 a.m. and the event will finish between 4.00p.m. and 5.00 p.m. depending on the visitors.
12 - The Selwyn Samuel Caterers, S and J Catering, will be able to offer refreshments for participants and visitors throughout the day.
I am confident this event will be a day to remember - thank you for your support.

Another year and another success
On behalf of Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services (CAVS), all the volunteers who have worked on behalf of the Llanelly House project were invited to attend the annual ‘Volunteer Thank You Day’. The ‘Thank You Day’ was celebrated once again in the National Botanic Gardens of Wales, Llanarthne on Monday 7th June.
At least 20 of the Llanelly House volunteers attended the day, even though the weather was rather damp! The opening address was delivered by the new Executive Director of CAVS, Mandy Jones who welcomed one and all – even though the weather had turned for the worse!
There were many complimentary activities that volunteers could participate in culminating in a BBQ in the evening.
A brief history of the Volunteers Week
Volunteers’ Week began in 1984. Initially it was run on a local level but in order to raise greater awareness of the importance of volunteers the National Centre for Volunteering* took the lead in promoting the Week.
The planning and development of Volunteers’ Week in England is now led by the Volunteers’ Week team at Volunteering England. The volunteer development agencies across the UK (Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA), Volunteer Now (based in Belfast), Volunteer Development Scotland (VDS) and Volunteering England work together to shape the major themes for the Week.
Each year more and more organisations get involved in the Week and participants take part in various events throughout the UK. These range from award presentations to setting-up information booths or sponsored walks and team challenge events with everything in between!
