Parc Howard Mansion House is a grand Italianate mansion built in 1885 and previously known as Bryncaerau Castle.
The name Welsh name of Bryncaerau literally means a ‘Hill fort’, as the Parc is on the top of the hill on Felinfoel Road, then this description is rather apt.

It was the architect James Buckley Wilson (image above), who designed the new Bryncaerau Mansion House. James Buckley Wilson was the grandson of the Rev James Buckley (1770-1839) founder of the Brewery dynasty. Buckley Wilson used the work undertaken on Bryncaerau Mansion as his application to become a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Architects.
It was during 1911 that Lt James Frances Hughes Buckley and family sold the property to a newly married couple, namely Sir Edward and Lady Stafford Howard (formely of Llanelly House). It was during this period that the name of the property changed to Parc Howard. Soon after in 1912 the Mansion house and the park land was donated to the people of Llanelli. An official parade took place during the summer of 1913.
